What is your name?
Babette Puzey & Todd Brown

What is your band’s name?
We are the Thrift Store Gypsies, an acoustic duo.

Where are you from?
We’re from the Syracuse area.

What kind of music do you perform/what instruments do you play?
Todd plays guitar and I use a few percussion gadgets.

When did you start performing/playing/singing? What got you into music?
Both of us have a lifelong interest in music and we performed in grade school. We began performing together publicly in 2014.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?
We’re inspired by multiple musicians, locally, nationally, and internationally from multiple genres. As a vocalist, I admire many female artists such as Norah Jones, Joan Osborne, Sara Bareilles, Melissa Etheridge, and Janis Ian. Todd is a huge Bob Dylan and Grateful Dead fan. For both of us, it’s songwriting that makes the biggest impression, especially the lyrics.

If your fans could remember one thing about you/your band, what would it be?
We like to be entertaining and fun, so we hope that’s the impression we leave.

Describe your favorite venue for performing.
We enjoy performing outside the most, but our favorite places to play inside are breweries.

Tell me about your favorite performance in your career.
Our favorite performance has to be when we filled in on a Saturday night at The 443 Social Club & Lounge on January 11, 2020. The venue itself has a great vibe and it felt like everyone in attendance enjoyed the evening.

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?
Be true to yourself and just have fun.

If there is anything you would like to add about yourself or your band, please feel free to do so.
We wrote an original about the Route 81 controversy in favor of the community grid. We recently recorded it at MoleTrax Studios with Donna Dennihy, Jon Peterson, and Mike Matthews. It’s now available on Spotify, but we’d like “Tear it Down” to get more exposure.
