Arts Impact Fund Grantee Update

Arts Impact Fund Update April 2021

As the pandemic shutdowns began last spring, CNY Arts, with generous assistance from the Gifford Foundation, developed and administered a wide-reaching survey of arts and cultural organizations and artists to find out how to them stay afloat amid the perfect storm of sudden season, exhibit, and program cancellations and grant reductions.

The arts sector told us what they needed was operational funding and they needed it quickly.

We created a fundraising committee made up of board, staff, and community members, and they got to work creating the COVID-19 Arts Impact Fund, and set an ambitious goal to raise $1 million. Ten months later with more than $850,000 raised in cash and in-kind donations, we’re closing to achieving this goal!

The fund received a tremendous boost through $175,000 in challenge grants provided by The Central New York Community Foundation, The Reisman Foundation and the John Ben Snow Foundation & Memorial Trust.

By the end of April, CNY Arts will have distributed over $460,000 in grants to artists and arts organizations in our region through our COVID-19 Arts Impact Fund. The funding has reached all 7 counties in our region, helping museums, performing arts groups, exhibitors, community centers, and venues representing music, theater, dance, visual arts, and historical and cultural genres. The fund has also helped individual artists and arts educators.

The staff and board of CNY Arts is humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support from so many across Central New York!
