schola Cantorum of Syracuse presents: Tropos: Viva La Guitarra
Music of Spain and Cuba from the 16th to 19th centuries. The instruments we will be playing show the evolution of the guitar. The Guitar's importance and presence over many centuries reflect its place as the national instrument of Spain and the passion it excited in the rest of Europe. The guitar is the foundation for the proliferation of diverse and varied related instruments in Latin America. The presence of the Cuban lute in this concert is a vivid example of this relationship. Performed by Tropos ( Liamna Pestana and Daniel Yost) and Cuban lutenist Manuel Paneque.
