The first concert in the summer 2018 season for Alliance Classical Players is “Old Wine in New Bottles”. The program includes Roaring Fork, for wind quintet by Eric Ewazen. This three-movement work depicts the scenery in and around the Roaring Fork River Valley in Colorado. Two larger chamber wind works are also included in the program: Charles Gounod’s Petite Symphonie and Gordon Jacob’s Old Wine in New Bottles. The Gounod selection is a lively and tuneful work that has become a staple of the chamber wind literature, and the Jacob is a collection of four old English folk songs, re-worked for a large chamber wind group into four short movements that are enjoyable to hear.
Musicians performing on the June 16 concert are: Cornelia Brewster and Beth Evans, flute; Janelle Bookhout and Kathryn Dimmel, oboes; Kristin Kelly and Colleen O’Neil, clarinets; Sue Daves and Judy Marchione, bassoons; Ed Marshilok, contrabassoon; Claire McKenney and Elizabeth Hahn, French Horns; and Jack Chesebro III and Bert Bookhout, trumpets. The program is conducted by Jason Curley. A complimentary reception follows the concert, featuring light snacks and wines hand-picked by the musicians.
General admission tickets are $5 and available for purchase at the door. Students, seniors and RACC members are admitted free.
