Jean B. Somlo Artist Statement

Over many years my style has evolved from realism in oils to abstraction in acrylic. This exhibit includes numerous colorful textured acrylic abstracts. Created in the past few years, these works were mainly accomplished using trowels, large painting knives, and squeegees.

Artist Resume

Jean Somlo is a retired public school art teacher, with a Master’s degree in Art Education from Syracuse University. She currently teaches at the Oasis Senior Educational Program. Her award winning art work has been exhibited in 50 solo shows, numerous invitational group shows, and juried regional exhibits. These venues include: Everson Museum, Onondaga Historical Association, Syracuse University Museum Galleries, Munson Williams Proctor, Schweinfurth Museum, Albany Museum of History and Art, N.Y.S. Library (Albany), S.U.N.Y. Albany Art Gallery, Troy Historical Society, and the Springfield Museum (Massachusetts). She has been a juror for regional art exhibits also. Her art work is included in numerous private and public collections in the U.S. and Canada.
