Come join us for the 2024 Fulton Living History Tours

While the actual walking and trolley Tour will again take place on a main street bordering the Oswego River, the narration and performances will incorporate former industries located throughout the city, churches that welcomed immigrants to our community, and cultural events that shaped Fulton’s uniqueness. Additionally, large free-standing and mobile visual displays of city history will be featured, as will the memories of senior citizens who lived that history. Our city library will contribute a “story walk”: a stroll along oversized picture book pages honoring our history. Business owners along the Tour route will be encouraged to dress in period costumes, as will audience members. The Tour will conclude with a block party featuring music and dancing in an open-air downtown venue, extending the celebratory nature of the Tour.

The expanded Tour will also offer opportunities for youth to gain an appreciation of their hometown’s history. The story walk picture book is being created by the library’s Teen Group, with one of its members serving as the main author. Partnering with the Fulton School District, all 7th grade Junior High students will be bused to the Tour, providing teachers with a method to incorporate local history into their curriculum. In addition, a high school jazz band will recreate music once performed by Fulton’s drum & bugle corps.
