Scope of Grants Services

Incorporated in 1957, CNY Arts (f.k.a. Cultural Resources Council) is one of the nation’s longest continuously serving regional Arts Councils. Through intensive strategic planning, the agency now focuses on providing robust arts services and technical assistance to an expanded six-plus county region (~5,500 sq. miles, pop. 1.01M 170 zip codes) comprising Oswego, Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, and Onondaga counties-- the largest territory for regional arts councils in NYS. (and Cayuga County when we receive Regional Economic Development funds). Through this growth, CNY Arts has operated in the black since 2008.

In 2020, CNY Arts, Inc. awarded over $1.88 million through 337 arts grants and scholarships in 12 grant programs. In 2019, grant programs assisted 11,888 artists and arts, culture, history and heritage organizations, and 158,513 youth and students in our communities and provided arts activities to over 953,959 visitors and residents in our six-county region. All grant decisions are made through a peer-review panel process administered by CNY Arts. Guidelines and applications are revised annually based on extensive feedback and evaluation, approved by the CNY Arts Grants Oversight Committee with representatives from each of the six counties in our region.
