In collaboration with CiTi BOCES, CNY Arts hosted Creative Connections: Arts Education Conference on October 27, 2023 at Central Square Middle School for teaching artists and arts educators. The conference was highly successful with over 100 participants in attendance. Workshop offerings featured arts pedagogy, classroom culture, grant applications and more. CNY Arts would like to thank Senator John W. Mannion and Senator Rachel May, who advocate on behalf of our creative community in Central NY, for making opening remarks at this event. A big thank you to our conference presenters, including Hughie and Avery Stone Fish.

The conference was made possible through the support of the New York State Council of the Arts.

Workshop Highlights

Tricking Our Mind into Positivity

Hughie Stone Fish, Teaching Artist

In this hands-on musical improv workshop, Hughie will answer the question, “How do we put confidence at the forefront of our creative decision-making?”. In this workshop, participants will learn what negative mind patterns we all engage in and how to recognize them. Join Hughie in games and exercises designed to teach you how to keep positivity in a creative space, and give you the tools to unlock improvisational thinking in yourself and your students. This class is for people of all music and improv levels.

Phone in your Pocket, World at your Fingertips

Avery Stone Fish, Teaching Artist

In this interactive discussion, Avery will talk about creating cross-community partnerships through the digital medium. From making music videos with children, to partnering with NASA to bring kids’ art to space, to creating Chicago’s first intergenerational co-mentoring program, Avery has created a strategy for building community-based partnerships. In this workshop, Avery will share tips and tricks for leveraging your available tools to support your community.
